@floriangadsby: Trimming a little, tall necked bud vase with the use of my Diamond Core Tools and a handy mug, which just about fit this vase for turning perfectly. One off shapes like this can be a challenge to finish, and more often than not I’ll search the studio for a receptacle that the pots squeezes into, like this little stepped stoneware mug. If, on the other hand, I was making a much larger collection of this particular shape, I’d throw a solid clay chuck the shoulder and neck of the form fit comfortably into, to make the process of trimming far more straightforward. That’s what I’ve done with my inkwells, a form that I throw and trim on a semi-regular basis. The chuck is kept wrapped up in plastic and dunked in water after every use before being stored away in a tightly lidded box, this way I can keep them leather hard for months, or even years on end.
