@crimeatyourfingertips: Three students were killed & five others injured after a gunman opened fire on the Michigan State University (MSU) campus on Monday night. The victims were all students at the university, police said, and the injured remain in critical condition. The police said a caller's tip led them to the suspected gunman, who di3d from a self-inflicted gunsh0t wound. The suspect, Anthony Dwayne McRae, 43, who has since been identified, had no ties to MSU. "We can confirm that the 43-year-old suspect had no affiliation to the university. He was not a student, faculty, or staff, current or previous," Chris Rozman of the Michigan State University Police said. University police identified the slain students as junior Arielle Anderson, sophomore Brian Fraser and junior Alexandria Verner. Anderson & Fraser graduated in 2021 from high schools in Grosse Pointe, school superintendent Jon Dean said Tuesday. Questions still remain about the motive of the gunman. "We have absolutely no idea what the motive was at this point," Mr Rozman said. When McRae was found by police in Michigan, “he had a note in his pocket that indicated a threat to two Ewing Public Schools,” the police department in New Jersey said Tuesday. MSU police confirmed McRae had a note, and Ewing police said local schools no longer faced a threat. The attack came hours before the five-year anniversary of the massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. It also marked the 67th mass shooting – with four or more sh0t, not including a gunman – so far in 2023, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive. There have been 12 school shootings so far this year, according to a CNN tally. The shooting at Michigan State marks the first at a college or university this year.
