My friend just died of cancer last year…and I never knew what to say. So I told him I loved him. Every day.

Maybe learning to pray with patience who question Gods existence would be a nice tactic? For both of you. No harm in that and I imagine giving one hope is invaluable.

Well done! Five years of Jesuit seminary, nearly two years of hospital chaplaincy and 8 years as a parish priest and I still say “I don’t know.”

What if you say the completely wring thing because you’re panicking? My husband talked mostly about himself and problems he had and my sister and brother in law are furious now and don’t ever want to see him again not even st the funeral. He clearly panicked had been waiting outside for 4 hours in his car not to be late or stuck in traffic at the time they said he could come to visit. So with the best intensions its a mess now

My sister just wanted people to acknowledge she was dying. Not be called a warrior or a hero or brave. Too much pressure. toxic positivity.
