Scooter and Peter have a whole bedtime routine worked out. It begins with her joining him as he enjoys his evening tea, looking loving up at Peter, and getting some little snout strokes in the process. Then it’s time for a pre-bed cuddle session, before Peter leads Scooter, and her little sidekick, Sprite, over to their hay-filled stable where they’ll spend the night together. (Sound on and you’ll hear Peter saying ‘nyumba’, which means house in Swahili; just letting his little charges know it’s hometime.) Scooter used to lord it over her fellow orphans – and our staff - at Kaluku, until the arrival of Sprite. Since then, she’s been almost singularly focused on her fellow orphaned warthog. It’s been lovely to see her embrace her wild ‘inner warthog’ more, though we do still get glimpses of the Scooter of old!
