@jlgolson: How did @Chevrolet get 310 hp and 430 lb-ft out of the 2.7-liter turbo four in the new 2023 Colorado? One part is keeping it cool, no matter what. #truck #engines #pickup #chevrolet #cars #LevelUpBootcamp #TikTokPartner

Mikkel Andreassen :
And peugeot gets 272 hp out of a 1.6... I'd consider that a "small" engine...

nah nah the reason they make that much power is the insane compression and the amazing boost psi that's why

It’s a good engine size for a light duty truck like the Colorado but they’re so expensive nowadays 😢

the power gain is fairly minimal, what you gain from no water pump versus extra drag from alternator working harder is the difference in power

It doesn’t make a difference it impairs a load on the battery that the alternator has to make up for

I’m all for it. It’s a much better alternative to the timing belt/chain driven water pump most manufacturers have been turning to.

Lol the water pump being electric is not the reason they’re making more hp.

Mercedes did better with a 2.0. No accessory drive, electric turbo/wp/ps. Alt is in the bellhousing. 400hp.

Isn't that water pump running off the alternator then? It's still driven by the engine

They also provide residual heat after engine shutdown. Often referred to as “Rest Mode” which is from the German word [Restwärme] or residual heat.♨️

Same thing happened to the cooling fan - stuck in traffic the mechanical fan couldn't do much - so they went electric decades ago.

😂 Sent this to several friends who work in development at GM. They said this has nothing to do with the choices to have an electric pump. None at all
