Replying to @Shelby’s Shift to Simplified I made a lot of excuses for myself, especially in the beginning, but ultimately it comes down to me just not wanting to deal with it and letting it accumulate. Because even though we live in a small space, we still have far more than we need or that I can manage, and it affects my mood which in turn affects my kids. I’ve even struggled with pride, looking at others and thinking “how did they let it get that bad,” while living in the exact same situation, and that’s something I’m ashamed to admit. It took me so long to look deep into myself and realize my own struggle. To let go of my pride. I struggle with a fear of “need,” and anxiety around finances. A fear of not being able to buy something later on if we need it, and so I keep more than our space allows. The excuses come from my own pride, and the fear of “want” comes from a lack of trust in God’s provision. I’m working on the house, but I’m working on myself too. It’s a lot of change all at once, but I pray that someday I’ll have a house that’s perfectly manageable, let go of my fears, and fully trust that the things I think I need will be provided to me at the right time, should I *actually* need it. God has blessed me with the things around me and a home to live in, and I have not been stewarding them well.
