@floriangadsby: Trimming a porcelain vase, attached with slip initially, but for the underside I use the @DiamondCore Tools sticky pad, somewhat precariously, to turn the base and stamp my maker’s mark into the leather hard clay. In many cases I try to avoid time-lapse videos like this but in this instance, with the static camera angle, it shows far more clearly how much the form changes throughout this process. How the soft angles become sharp and how the overall shape is refined. I tend to wait until the porcelain is very leather hard before trimming it — I let it go further than the stoneware I normally trim. It’s so smooth that it’s possible to do this, as compared to the red stoneware, which is grogged, that would simply chatter excessively if I attempted the same. The firmness also means the pot holds its shape better as the walls are shaved back wafer thin and during the firing, I’ll hide the pot in amongst the pack, so it isn’t directly next to the flames jettisoning up from the burner.
