The Reality of the Michael Richards Racist Rant I haven’t read Michael Richards’ new book, but I’m going to. He’s currently promoting it via interview after interview, and I really like the way he presents himself. In an age of fast and false apologies, Richards seems genuine. Instead of issuing a quick statement after his 2006 outburst, he walked away. Did real work. Even better, he’s not out there begging for forgiveness. Whenever I see a celebrity sobbing for the cameras, it feels like acting. Like they’re not sorry for whatever they did, they’re sad that they might be losing their privilege. Richards didn’t do that then, and doesn’t come off like he’s doing it now. I respect that. Of course, I do have one issue with his response, and that’s what I discuss in this video. From Charlie Sheen going on tour after his dust up with Two and a Half Men producer Chuck Lorre, all the way to Stormy Daniels performing at a few comedy clubs a year or two back, celebrities think that stand-up comedy is something they can just… “do.” And when they throw their hat into the ring, they move to the front of the line, bypassing comedians with years of experience. Richards was given a prime slot on a Friday night show. I’m not sure he earned it via ability. That doesn’t make him a bad person, because why not take advantage of an opportunity?
