Anchors rely on the rope/chain dragging on the ground to create resistance. The anchor is really a weight to drag the rope/chain to the sea floor

I have a problem with this because the sea floor is solid limestone. No rocks or boulders just solid rock and I can’t get it to bite a lot of the time

I heard it's not the anchor that stops the ship, but the weight of the chain in the water with the anchor just guiding it. maybe just big ships?
