If you can only purchase one, start with the white dress shirt. It can worn with any suit you own and look greats with or without a tie. And yes, there are a lot more shirts you SHOULD own, but these 3 will get you started. 1. White Dress Shirt - this will be your work horse and can be dressed up with a suit or dressed down for a more casual look. This one can even be worn with a tuxedo if you don’t own a tuxedo shirt (but I’d recommend you purchasing a tuxedo shirt as soon as you can) 2. Light blue dress shirt- alternative to the white dress shirt and can worn with just about any color combination of suit except a tuxedo. Also looks great with denim and loafers. 3. Blue striped shirt - can be worn with a tie for a business look or can be worn by itself. Looks great with an odd trouser and jacket combination.
