@fs.pod: Hate to burst your bubble (or maybe “rings” in this case? - Apple Watch pun) But any device you wear that tells you how many calories you burned during a workout is just wrong. Here’s a short clip from our upcoming podcast this Monday - “Top-5 Reasons You’re Not Losing Weight” And I know what half the comments are already going to say: “But Tony! The technology has advanced so much since this study! It must be more accurate now! Sorry, but wrong again. Because i’s not the technology that’s the issue… Here is what the calorie tracking device takes into account to give you an estimate of how many calories you burn: - Heart rate - Gender - Weight Here’s what it would take to *accurately* estimate how many calories you burn during a workout: - Heart rate - Gender - Body composition (muscle vs. fat) - Individual genetics - Endocrine (aka hormone) health - How much food you have eaten that day - How much sleep you got the night before - How fatigued you are going into the workout - AND SO MANY OTHER FACTORS So many factors influence how many calories you burn during a workout, and sadly, almost all of them are not taken into account on your favorite calorie tracking device. #calorie #calories #caloriedeficit #cardio #applewatch
I don’t use it for exact calories burned but as a reference to compare between workouts so as long as it’s consist I’m good

Not saying trackers are 100% accurate but this study is almost 10 years old bc the Microsoft band was discontinued in 2016 and the Mio came out in 2015

I mean, it sounds like that was just the average, I feel like it would be more interesting to talk about what the actual Apple one was

It always under tracked mine. I served and ran up and down stairs but it wasn’t counting because I had food in my hands and not swinging
