this is why your bar path matters so much… A relatively straight bar path over your mid-foot usually shows that you’re keeping the bar + your body balanced well over your base of support, which can make the squat more mechanically efficient and help you transfer force effectively. If the bar shifts forwards or backwards, it can be a sign that your movement strategy is changing to maintain balance. This could be related to things like bracing, mobility, strength, fatigue, your individual anatomy or the way you naturally squat. It doesn’t automatically mean your technique is “bad” or that you’re at a higher risk of injury, but it can be a useful clue that certain joints or muscles are taking on more or less demand. The first squat with the forward bar path shows how I’m currently achieving depth with reduced left ankle mobility thanks to my 5 month old ligament ruptures😁 Because I have less ankle dorsiflexion available, I compensate with more forward trunk lean, a greater shift of pressure towards my forefoot, my heels beginning to lift and a slight increase in lumbopelvic flexion at the bottom of the squat (“butt wink”). These compensations help me still reach depth, but they also change how the load is distributed between my ankle, knee, hip and trunk. so basically… your bar path isn’t just about whether your squat looks “good” or “bad” — it can give you a really useful insight into HOW your body is moving under load! stay tuned for a long overdue ankle mobility video! wearing @Oner Active dc TAKARA🤎
