Harbor Freight has a soda blaster that would probably work well for that. Kind of messy, but gets in the crevices well.

Old finish? Try denatured alcohol and 4 ought steel wool. Super fine/soft wire brush for trims.

Dremel with the tiny wire brush wheel attachment and any of the fine point grinder attachments.
