I was so desperate to get out of survival mode that sometimes I made my financial stress, burnout, and self-sabotaging patterns worse. And it took me YEARS to recognize it. When my mother passed away, I didn't just lose my mom. I lost a major part of the support system I'd depended on my entire life. Suddenly, I was trying to figure out how to financially support myself and my children while grieving a woman who had always been there. So I did what I knew how to do. I worked my motherfucking ass off. Lyft. DoorDash. Amazon graveyard shifts. Then straight into the salon to service my clients. I remember delivering food through Thanksgiving night just to afford a holiday meal for my children. And for a long time, I thought that was proof of how strong, independent, and determined I was. But looking back, I can see something else. I had started confusing constant movement with making progress. Every financial emergency became another reason to hustle harder. Every unexpected bill became another reason to find another income stream. Every setback reinforced the belief: “If I don't do everything, nobody is coming to save me.” And baby, that belief followed me long after some of those emergencies ended. That's how a survival strategy can become part of your identity. You stop saying: “I'm doing everything because I'm trying to survive this season.” And start believing: “I'm the woman who HAS to do everything.” Now resting feels irresponsible. Planning feels like wasting time. Asking for help feels embarrassing. And slowing down feels dangerous because you've convinced yourself that if you're not moving, you're falling behind. But here's what I had to learn: Being busy doesn't automatically mean you're building something. Sometimes you're making progress. Sometimes you're meeting a real, immediate need. And sometimes you're making decisions from fear without stopping to ask whether those decisions support the life you're trying to create. That's why I teach Safety Before Strategy. Not because bills disappear when you calm down. Not because faith replaces responsibility. But because you deserve enough room to think before fear makes every decision for you. And here's the identity piece: The woman I had to become to survive losing my mother was not necessarily the woman I needed to remain for the rest of my life. She got me through some incredibly difficult seasons. But I don't have to keep living like every day is that same emergency. And neither do you. So here's my question: What are you still doing today because it helped you survive a season of your life that has already ended? That's part of what we're unpacking inside my Survival Mode Escape Blueprint Workshop. We're looking at the patterns, beliefs, and decisions that keep high-achieving, hyper-independent women stuck in survival mode, and how to begin building a practical escape plan. Because you shouldn't have to keep exhausting yourself trying to escape a life you're already working so hard to change. Registration is available through the link in my bio. #SurvivalMode #IdentityRepair #HyperIndependence #SelfSabotage #FinancialStress
