@milansinghhh: 💰 A security deposit is a sum of money, usually equal to one- or two-months’ rent, that a landlord keeps as a precaution in case the tenant damages the rental property or fails to pay rent. When the tenant moves out, the landlord must give back the deposit but can keep some of it to cover any damages. Before moving out, the tenant has the right to request a pre-inspection, during which they can fix any damages. This will help them get their security deposit back. A landlord can keep a portion or all of a security deposit for the following reasons: Unpaid rent, Damages to the property beyond normal wear and tear, Unreturned keys, cleaning fees, Unpaid utility bills. It's important to note that a landlord cannot keep a security deposit for reasons that are not covered by the lease agreement. If a tenant disagrees with the landlord's deduction from their security deposit, they should first attempt to resolve the issue through negotiation. If the landlord and tenant cannot reach an agreement, the tenant can file a lawsuit in small claims court. In conclusion, understanding the laws and regulations surrounding security deposits in your state is essential for tenants. By familiarizing yourself with these laws, you can ensure that your security deposit is handled properly and that you receive the full amount back at the end of your tenancy. This is a friendly reminder that I only have one account, this one. I will never ever DM you asking for money. Please report and block anyone pretending to be me. They also have a certain amount of time to do it. Most of the time 30 days with written notice as to what they’re keeping and why.

This is all fantastic advice. I’ve been in this situation twice. What worked for me is filing a claim with the state AG. Saved me the trouble of suing
