While some of you may know about the diss between the once-called Kanye West and Hedi Slimane during his interview with Zane Lowe for BBC Radio 1, not many know about what happened during the Yeezus tour. The world tour started in October 2013 to promote Kanye’s album Yeezus. In this clip, during the Madison Square Garden concert in New York, Kanye decided to publicly call out Hedi in the middle of the concert. He also called out Nike, since that was the period when he parted road with the brand to join Adidas. Between the songs Black Skinhead and I am a God he explained the birth of the diss: “Now I know y’all don’t know who the fuck Hedi Slimane is, but let me explain to you who he is. He was once a friend of mine. And I used to wear his tight ass jeans when I was on tour and get called names for it. He was somebody who actually had a vision and was not put in a position on top of the game. Cuz I’m telling you, my friend, they be sellin’ you bullshit. And Hedi Slimane was a guy who didn’t serve no bullshit. Hedi Slimane was a guy who didn’t serve no bullshit. But a God should recognize another God. But a God needs to recognize another God. So when he told me you can come to my show, but you can’t come to see Phoebe and you can’t come to see Riccardo, that was odd. He tried to control me! He tried to tell me where I could go!” This is also what inspired the lyrics of his song I am a God.
