The problem is the old carbon steel Redbirds were OK for reefs. The Brightliners were made from stainless and disintegrated.

The practice of using old subway cars to help build new coral reefs is still done today to my knowledge but it has to be done with more sturdily built

I'm all about preservation of old trains that aren't around anymore so I'd like to see some of these saved and operated but reefs are cool!
