Replying to @Heather Bullock I cannot tell you the countless hours I have spent trying to figure out how to get her to stop destroying toys. Here’s what worked for her: she was a big nipper, would always put her mouth on our hands. Even if it didn’t hurt or she wasn’t fighting hard, we immediately say ouch in a puppy yelp kind of way. Second tip enrichment toys, try all of them try any of them. The dinosaur volcano where you hide treats, and they have to pull out the stuffed animals to get to them is a favorite. Provide them different textures to chew on so they don’t go for the toys. She gets a toothbrush every day, and cheese stick that will last a couple weeks, beef cheek, rolls, that last months, and frozen raw marrow bones. I think, having the variety of all of these makes them all last so much longer than they would independently. I have found that she chews on things less when she does an enrichment activity. She’s not bored. Snuffle mats, lick mats, or even just hiding treats in a room for them to sniff around for. There’s probably a multitude of reasons that dogs chew up stuffed toys, but for Daisy, I think it was boredom and over excitement.
