I finally got LASIK! I had a consult 10+ years ago but decided against it because I was told I could only do PRK which has a longer recovery time and is more painful. I finally got LASIK! I had a consult 10+ years ago but decided against it because I was told I could only do PRK which has a longer recovery time and is more painful. During my last check-up, my optometrist suggested LASIK (initially as a joke to save money on contacts annually), and for some reason, I felt compelled to have another consult. I've had glasses since I was in 2nd grade and had Ortho K lenses (hard lens like "temporary LASIK" that shapes the cornea at night) from 8th grade until medical school, when I finally came out of them and converted to soft lenses. So I've been in for the last 10+ years, spending easily $750-1100 each year on contacts and exams. My myopia prescription has always been high (-7 in left eye, -6.5 in right eye with contacts and HIGH astigmatism -1.75-2.25), but after going without contacts for 1-2 weeks to give my eyes time to adjust to baseline, my prescription was much higher: -10 in left eye, -7 in right eye with -3 astigmatism. Wearing high prescription glasses is the bain of my existence especially since I already have small eyes and it's always been something that made me self-conscious, so needless to say, I was excited to get this procedure done and not have to deal with contacts or glasses for at least 6+ years. LASIK: 10/24/24 at 2PM Immediately post-op: foggy & blurry like I was seeing out of smudged glasses or contacts but definitely major improvement to what I would think is <-1 or -2 with contacts 30 min post-op: My eyes felt like there were foreign objects in them (no sharp pain, just felt like there's sand or something) and sluggish with lots of tearing, so it was more comfortable to keep them closed. I was kept in a room to be monitored as had minor capillary bleeding during the flap creation process due to my long-term contact lens wearing history causing corneal neovascularization but nothing Dr. Woolfson was concerned about (he had mentioned this may happened in our pre-op small group of 6) 1-4 hours post-op: I took a 2.5-3 hr nap after I got home and ate something. Eyes weren't too uncomfortable but I just felt sleepy Post-op Day 0: When I woke up from my nap, I felt great overall. No pain, dryness, or light sensitivity but I continued to wear the tinted protective sunglasses and continued with drops in my eyes while awake. Vision still foggy but a little better Post-op Day 1 (<24 hrs): woke up with slightly better vision but still foggy and difficulty focusing. It still looked blurry when trying to focus on small fonts from 20-30ft away. Went for my checkup and the flap looked smooth, no wrinkles. Seeing 20/40 left eye, 20/25 right eye but +1 astigmatism (farsighted instead of nearsighted). Turns out my vision overcorrected, as expected with my high prescription and astigmatism, and they anticipate regression which will hopefully put me close to 20/20 for my 1 week follow-up. Post-op Day 2 (<48 hrs): vision is a bit better but still somewhat blurry, no longer foggy. It looks like there is a haze when I start to see out into the distance. No crisp, clear vision yet unless I'm looking at things close up within 10-15ft. Overall: no pain except for immediately post-op. Definitely worth it to take a nap because everything felt better afterwards. Vision is significantly better than what I'm used to but not as clear and crisp as I would like it yet. Here's hoping it'll continue to fluctuate over the next week(s). 🤞🏻 #lasik #woolfsoneyeinstitute #eyesurgery #lasikeyesurgery #postop #clearvision #eyesurgery
