@gemsofscience: We got some fresh smoky moissanites, including calibrated squares and rounds! Check the link in my bio or go to TurtlesHoard.com This material was faceted from a rejected puck of industrial silicon carbide grown for use in computer chips. Unfortunately (for them) there were imperfectikns in their seed plate reaulting in growth needles. I was able to trim in between these to get clean stonws big enough for gems. Silicon carbide, aka moissanite, is a star in both the gem world and the world of science. It has incredible properties: ultra high hardness (9.5!), incredible heat resistance, super high luster and dispersion, and it's a semiconductor! Put together that means it's great for making chips and gems alike. We've been able to source some material that didn't make the cut for industrial usage and repurposed it for use in gems.
