Whike the back extension machine primarily* targets the erector spinae muscles, which run along the spine, you CAN target different muscle groups by adjusting your form. The back extension machine (or hyper extension machine) can be used for back, glutes, hamstrings, and even core! while adjustmenting your form can shift the emphasis of the exercise to different muscle groups, the erector spinae muscles will still be worked to some extent regardless of your form. It's also important to use proper form and technique to avoid injury and get the most out of the exercise. And y’all I mean that! Don’t over extend, go slow and controlled.
