In The Name Of God, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful. THE ORIGINAL SCROLL OF IBRĀHĪM According to the Preserved Tablet (Al-Lawḥ Al-Maḥfūẓ) Being the Ṣuḥuf Ibrāhīm, the Book of the Friend, the Testament of the Ḥanīf, the Journey of the One Who Sought the Face of the One and Found It --- The First Chapter: The Night of the Stars I, Ibrāhīm, son of Tāriḥ (who is called Āzar in the land of my birth), write these words in my old age, that my children and my children's children may know the path by which the One led me. I was born in Ur of the Kasdim, the city of the moon-god, where the great ziggurat rises toward the sky like a mountain made by human hands. My father was a maker of images — idols of wood and stone and precious metal, shaped by his craft and sold to the worshipers who came from all the lands of Shinar. Our house was full of gods. But from my earliest memory, I was restless. The gods of my father did not speak. They did not move. They did not eat the offerings placed before them, nor did they hear the prayers whispered at their feet. I, even as a child, wondered: How can this thing save? How can this thing create? It is made by hands like my own. It is carried on shoulders. If it falls, it shatters. What kind of god shatters? I questioned my father. He said, "This is the way of our fathers, and their fathers before them. Do not trouble the tradition." But the trouble was already in my heart. A fire had been kindled — not the fire that consumes the sacrifice, but the fire that consumes falsehood. I did not yet know the name of that fire. I know it now: it is the spark of the One, planted in every soul, waiting for the breath of seeking to fan it into flame. One night, I left the house of my father and went out into the plain beyond the city walls. The moon was full — Sin, the god of Ur, riding high in his silver boat. The stars were innumerable, the host of heaven, the army of the night. I looked upon them, and my heart was moved. I said within myself: Surely these are the gods. See how beautiful they are, how ordered, how beyond the reach of human hands. The moon in its majesty — this must be the Lord of all. I bowed my face to the ground and worshiped the moon. I said, "You are my lord, O Sin, king of the night." But even as I spoke, a cloud passed across the face of the moon, and its light was hidden. The moon set, sinking below the rim of the world. Darkness returned. And I said, I love not those that set. What sets cannot be the Eternal. What fades cannot be the Everlasting. What is veiled by a cloud cannot be the Lord of the worlds. Then my eyes turned to the stars — the great multitude, the constellations, the Pleiades and Orion, the Bear and the Serpent. I said, These must be the lords. They are many; together they rule the night. They do not set like the moon; they march in their courses, season after season. I will worship them. I watched the stars until the blackness of the night began to lighten. And then, one by one, the stars faded before the dawn. They did not set like the moon, but they were overcome — swallowed by the greater light that was rising in the east. I said, These too are not the Lord. They are servants of a greater Power, which is about to reveal itself. The sun rose over the plain — Shamash, the blazing disk, the eye of heaven, the giver of light and life. I fell on my face and said, This is the greatest of all. This must be the Lord. See how it overwhelms the stars! See how it warms the earth! Nothing is hidden from its heat. All day I watched the sun climb the sky, and I worshiped it. But at the end of the day, the sun also set. It sank below the horizon, and the world grew dark again. And I cried out: O my people, I am free from what you associate with the One! I have turned my face toward the One who originated the heavens and the earth. #Allah #muhammad #mahad #mahdi #fyp
