@deplorableway: World War I was believed to be the “war to end all wars”, and this claim was motivated by the devastating destruction and slaughter the war had caused upon the world. The Treaty of Versailles, a peace treaty signed on June 28th of 1919, laid down terms for Germany which caused negative impacts on Europe and motivated World War II. It declared that the guilt and consequence of the war was to lay on Germany’s shoulders. The newly-established Weimar Republic was faced with many problems in its brief existence, such as hyperinflation and political issues surrounding extremism, which, among people alike to Hitler, gave it a poor reputation. By signing the Treaty of Versailles, Weimar politicians were viewed as traitors to Germany by these people. The desire to reunify the German people and pursue Lebensraum, as well as overturn the provisions of the Treaty of Versailles which concerned the military and territory of Germany, motivated Adolf Hitler and his political party members. There was a patriotic wish to restore the “glory of the German Empire” that had been lost. On September 1st of 1939, the Third Reich invaded Poland, making France and Great Britain declare war on Germany, beginning the Second World War in Europe. Despite the lessons humanity should’ve learned from the conflict prior, this war became the deadliest war in all of history considering its staggering number of fatalities and immense destruction of land.
