An Oregon family has filed a lawsuit against Oregon State Hospital, alleging their loved one died after staff failed to intervene while he consumed an excessive amount of toilet water over several hours. According to the complaint, Kenneth Hass drank an estimated five gallons of water from a toilet while isolated in a seclusion room in March 2025. The lawsuit claims hospital employees knew he had a history of compulsive water drinking and falls but failed to properly monitor him or document his condition. The family alleges Hass slipped multiple times, struck his head, vomited, and eventually became unresponsive. Despite a Code Blue being called, the lawsuit says staff delayed entering the room and waited several minutes before checking his pulse or beginning CPR. First responders later took over lifesaving efforts, but Hass was pronounced dead. A subsequent federal review reportedly identified major problems with the hospital’s emergency response, citing delays in providing medical care, poor coordination among staff, and failures to promptly use lifesaving equipment. The lawsuit also alleges Hass spent approximately 250 consecutive days in seclusion, where he was frequently isolated under poor living conditions despite known mental health challenges and repeated episodes of excessive water consumption. His family argues hospital staff relied on isolation and restraints instead of developing an effective treatment plan. Hass’ family is seeking damages from Oregon State Hospital and the Oregon Health Authority, alleging negligence, wrongful death, abuse of a vulnerable person, and violations of his constitutional rights. The allegations remain claims made in the lawsuit and have not been proven in court.#fyp #viral
