Interest is calculated daily on the entire balance of the loan and charged monthly. Paying $1 per day won’t cancel out your interest portion.

a loan officer told me to write principal only on the memo line , you get the same result and that was on a fixed loan.

I understood variable to be the rate of interest on the remaining principal at ANY given time. Paying 1$ doesn’t reset the interest.
