@moose_the_black_lab: Just because he doesn’t look like your Lab it doesn’t mean he isn’t full Lab. So what is the difference between American Labs and English Labs? While both are still Labrador Retrievers they can have different physical and temperament characteristics based on their breeding history and intended purpose. American Labs are typically bred to be working dogs. They are usually smaller in size, with a leaner build and a more energetic temperament. They tend to have longer legs, a more streamlined head, and a thinner coat. English Labs are bred for shows and as companions. They are usually larger and heavier, with a stockier build, blockier head, and a calmer temperament and they have a thicker, more lustrous coat. This is not to say that one is better than the other. If i was a hunter, I would have opted for an energetic American Lab. But as a busy mom to two young children I needed a dog with a calm/easy-going temperament and thats definitely what I got with Moose.
