The USSR was an authoritarian country which suppressed free speech and actions negatively opinionated against the government. The fifteen post-Soviet states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan— are, in Countryhumans terms, the children of USSR, and he essentially treated them as sub-human forced labourers chained to his command and will. Alongside his siblings, Russia was treated with extreme barbaric cruelty under the reign of his father, however, formulating a positive image of an abuser is a debatably common psychological response, categorized as a coping mechanism. Russia does not “miss” his father, he “misses” what he believed his father to be, as within the immense amount of agony inflicted upon him, his brain warped the treatment and perceived it as good to defend him. I’ve seen far too many people in this fandom characterize Russia and USSR’s relationship as healthy and caring, and considering historical events surrounding the USSR (examples: dekulakization, collectivization, political repression, ideological repression, ethnic repression, mass killings of civilians, tortures of civilians, assaults of civilians, and executions of civilians), I believe that USSR’s portrayal as a “good” person is wholly incorrect. The USSR had committed many war crimes and many unspeakable atrocities in its existence, and the fandom’s portrayal of the USSR’s character is so ignorant to this.
