@gemsofscience: We have all new faceted lithium niobate! Check the link in my bio or visit TurtlesHoard.com This is lithium niobate, a crystal which plays a larger role in your life than you might think. In addition to more exotic uses like frequency doubling in lasers and use in fiber networks lithium niobate is an essential component of cell phones, where its piezoelectricity allows it to act as a resonator for filtering radio signals. It is also pyroelectric, triboelectric and photoelastic among other properties that make it indispensible for all kinds of scientific and industrial applications. Like its cousin lithium tantalate it cuts very bright and dispersive gems. With a hardness of 5.5 it is not good for ring wear but makes incredible pendants. These stones were faceted from industrial offcuts we saved from being scrapped. #lithiumtantalate #lithium #syntheticgems #labcreated #rainbow #facetrough #faceting #lapidary #simulant #niobate #lithiumniobate #niobium #gems #loosegems #rare #gemsofscience #rainbow #faceted

Is it possible to have a crystal cylinder with facets on all sides that allow two-way individual transmission through each facet?

Some years ago there was an attempt to turn used carbon rods from nuclear power into conductive diamond batteries 🥰 they were pretty successful

Do you recommend these types of crystals for someone getting into lapidary?

Are any of these lab gems toxic? I cant imagine anyone licking their loose or set gems, but they have warning labels for a reason.
