That’s the last bit of wrapping for this year, one lone espresso cup boxed up for its short journey across the city. This is roughly my procedure for most of my shipped work, (although it’s definitely arranged more ergonomically and more packaging materials are prepared before the fact when I normally send off a ‘drops’ worth of work). Everything is paper based here, although if you receive a parcel from me there may also very well be plastics, like bubble-wrap, but that’s only because I’m recycling it from a package I’ve received. Normally though, it goes like this. Tissue paper, then a layer of paper bubble wrap, then a ring of corrugated cardboard. Its wrapped tightly, but not so tightly that the pot might snap under strain, (its happened), then it’s placed into a box with biodegradable packing chips, made from starch, ALL the way around the vessel, meaning that the wrapped object should be in the very middle of the box, not directly next to one of the walls. I stuff everything in enough so there’s no rattling inside, if you hear stuff moving about, or can feel the innards slosh around, then it’s definitely not packed tightly enough. It should be silent; save for the business card I include sometimes rattling around inside the pot itself. The box is then sealed with paper activated tape, this stuff is tremendously sticky and keeps boxes held together with such strength, I love it, although it can be a bit messy to use. And that’s it, one tiny cup all boxed up and ready for its journey, a present for someone who did me a favour. #pottery #ceramics #wrapping #wrappingpresents #handmade #espresso
