The phrase «When in Rome» refers to the importance of adapting yourself to the customs of the people who are in a certain place or situation and behave like they do. I always like to blend in with the crowd, and do a lot of the same things as the locals do, but also make the most of the city you’re in. Great combination. Get the most out of your stay without necessarily spending time on all the tourist traps, but meet people and mingle with everyone, since the possibilities are many in a city such as New York. It is a creative city and around the time of fashion week, you never know who you will meet, because there are countless street photographers who want your photo for their portfolio. The people hanging out around in the streets are often better dressed than anyone and there is an energy of cool in the air, so Im like playing along, like everything is normal. Thats how I like to travel. Carefree and effortless, and in the filosophy of Sprezzatura. An italian art of looking great, but without fussiness. It’s embracing imperfection, and in so doing, pulling it off. When pulled off expertly, sprezzatura is what you get when you put a lot of thought into your clothing, but it doesn’t appear that you did so. It’s similar to the common French phrase je ne sais quoi, and suddenly you are in someones photo catalog, and before you know it, you are in a commercial on tv, or even better, an extra with a Line, in a movie or awesome tv-series like suits or girls etc. And one final tip. Dont use all your money on clothes. Mix and match. Something expensive and something affordable. People dont see the difference. LOL. Thats my little secret tip for you before the weekend.
