@nytimes: Fire devastated the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in 2019, and nearly $1 billion was raised to restore not just its famous Gothic architecture, but also something that could not be seen: the way it sounded. Acoustic researchers, working alongside architects, are attempting to bring back Notre-Dame’s majestic sound. This stunning immersive experience was brought to life by Malika Khurana, Mika Gröndahl and Yuliya Parshina-Kottas, along with Madeleine Schwartz. To simulate how the cathedral sounded before the fire, researchers used acoustic measurements taken in 2015. This video uses that information to convey what Notre-Dame sounded like in different parts of the cathedral.
