The most enjoyable restoration I’ve done so far 🛠️ My late grand aunt Olive Wijeyekoon purchased this Mitsubishi Lancer brand new in 1977. This 1400SL-5 Speed was quite the car in its day being the highest spec that came to Sri Lankan shores (with the exception of Ajantha Dinamithra’s famous 1600GSR coupe that came down for racing purposes only). Even today the car absolutely flies and loves to be driven in a spirited manner. Following her passing it remained in the family owned by her daughter and her husband who resided in Italy and visited around once a year and would put a few miles on it then. The result of which was that the car was beautifully preserved with barely any wear and tear with just 78,000 original miles when I found it. As the owner got older their visits became less and less frequent which is when the car went into hiding in the back of family property in Rosemead place where I tracked it down to and here we are! For the colour I decided that the original Silver did not do the car justice but I wanted to keep it period correct so what we have here is Amazon Green G71 which was the launch and catalogue colour of the model. This car came without mirrors so I tracked down a set of genuine mirrors that match this spec in Ratnapura. The center caps were the toughest and after much searching I found a near perfect set in Arizona of all places!
