Have you considered making two rings and using a harder wire or something in between the two? Maybe it will give it strength and not break as easily.

Awesome work even with all the trial and error ! I had the same problem with wooden rings, could you fuse resin into the wood with a vacuum chamber?

way to stick with it. next time soak the wood in c.a. glue overnight in a sealed container so it absorbs the glue and locks the grain.

Maybe try using Cactus Juice resin? if you use it in a vacuum chamber, it will impregnate the wood and stabilize it and make it more durable.
