@spicyzaalouk: The Victorian era, which spanned from 1837 to 1901, presented several challenges for black women belonging to the upper echelons of society. Despite the hurdles, many of these women managed to rise to prominence. Black women belonging to the elite class were usually born into wealthy families or married wealthy men. They faced racial and gender discrimination, but their wealth and social connections enabled them to overcome some of these obstacles. While their options for career and education were limited, some high society black women contributed significantly to their communities through philanthropic work, such as supporting the abolition of slavery and advocating for education for women and minorities. Additionally, some were accomplished writers, artists, and musicians who used their talents to break down stereotypes and drive social change. Notable examples include Mary Seacole, a nurse who cared for wounded soldiers during the Crimean War, Philippa Schuyler, a pianist and composer, and Adelaide Hall, a jazz singer and actress who gained fame in Europe.
