@climate.facts.scientific: Tornadoes left a trail of destruction in rural #Mississippi overnight Friday, k*lling at least 23 people, flattening buildings and plunging thousands of homes into darkness. On Saturday, President Joe Biden called the devastation "heartbreaking" as search and rescue efforts continued and accounts of survivors emerged, including restaurant workers who huddled in a refrigerator to survive in the Mississippi town of #RollingFork In addition to the d*aths, dozens of people were injured and four were missing after a series of tornadoes, the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency confirmed Saturday morning. Crews also began assessing damage Saturday, the agency said. The d*ath toll could rise. Much of the worst impact came from a storm that carved a devastating path northeast across Mississippi and #Alabama, according to AccuWeather. The rural towns of #SilverCity and Rolling Fork, about 60 miles northeast of #Jackson, Mississippi, bore the brunt of #tornado damage.
