The Historical Villages of Shirakawa-go is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its gassho-zukuri farmhouses across 3 villages, Ogimachi, Ainokura, and Suganuma. Gassho-zukuri means “put hands together in prayer” and is the shape of the steep thatched roofs that have no nails or metal materials to construct these roofs! 😮 It is beautiful in all seasons, but it really transforms into a beautiful fairytale village in the winter, which makes it a postcard perfect location to visit! 🏘️ You can cover this village in a few hours, which makes it a great day trip from Takayama!
