Then, something dramatic would happen that clearly showed you to be correct. (It doesn't ALWAYS have a dramatic moment associated with it, but it often does.) -The few economists who warned that the economy was badly unstable in the years leading up to 2008 were universally derided and laughed at, until the crash happened. These economists were vindicated by the stock market crash.
