I OFFICIALLY GRADUATED FROM MY IMPROV CONSERVATORY LAST NIGHT!! 🥳 I’ve been taking improv comedy classes weekly for the past 14 months, and it all culminated last night with my class’s final showcase + graduation. Improv was always something I enjoyed watching during college and something I wanted to be good at in theory 😂 but it wasn’t until actually DOING improv regularly that it really started to *click* for me. To be clear, I was terrified of improv…until I actually tried it. I went to an improv jam for the very first time on August 25, 2023, and I was nervous as heck. I didn’t know whether I’d be good or funny, and I worried that everyone else would know what they were doing / that I’d come across as a total noobie. And what I discovered was the most welcoming, hilarious, and unique community of people I’ve ever come across. The whole idea behind improv is “YES AND”, so no one is there to put anyone else down anyway; they’re all there to support you, lift you up, and meet you where you’re at. I went to improv jams for the next 4 months months, and then signed up for a Level 1 class at @coldtownetheater starting January 2024. And since then, I’ve taken improv classes practically every single week. Any confidence in my improv abilities has grown immensely, and improv has become the most fun part of my week pretty much every week. It’s scheduled laughter in my week. Whether I’m taking a class, watching a show, jamming, or performing, I know that it’s a guaranteed 1-2 hours of laughter in my week. Taking improv classes has allowed me to be fully present on stage, to find the fun, and to make the fun in every scene. Performing has become addicting, and I now perform in improv shows as close to weekly as possible! The timing of graduation feels almost too perfect because THIS SATURDAY the improv troupe I started last year IS HEADLINING FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!!! This is legitimately what I’ve been working toward for more than half a year, so I’m absolutely stoked that it’s finally happening :’) we’re performing at 9:30pm at Coldtowne this Saturday, March 8, so if you’re in Austin and that time is free on your calendar, I’d love to see you there!! #i#improvi#improvcomedya#austinimprovc#comedyc#conservatoryg#graduationa#actoraustinactor
