Replying to @Candi Here’s a trick to helping your kid hold their pencil properly — When I was a first grade special education teacher, I worked closely with our occupational therapist and learned a few tricks. If your child is under 4 and not holding their pencil properly, do not worry! This is normal. If your child is 5 and up, this is when I would start guiding them in starting to hold their pencil “properly”. Why does it matter if they hold their pencil properly? To be honest, incorrect pencil grip over a long period of time can actually become quite painful. Cramping and carpal tunnel can actually happen as a result! Obviously the quality of the handwriting can be impacted too, but that isn’t as important as quality of life. You can try the pinch and flip method, invest in some of the my first pencils by Ticonderoga, or check out these pencil grips that can help guide your kids. #pencilgrip #properpencilgrip #ticonderoga #occupationaltherapy #finemotorskills #homeschooltips #handwriting #handwritingpractice #milestones
