![nicest way possible: i’m appalled at how many people lack media literacy, BASIC media literacy!!! —— when i played a mother who was stressed & overwhelmed because she had no time for herself (because she was taking care of the kids), and the director told me “it seems like you don’t want to give this character a life… like motherhood is something that changed her negatively” THAT IS LITERALLY THE WHOLE POINT OF HER CHARACTER ARC!?!?! —— when i played a character who’s whole personality is being annoyed & a hater, eye rolls were written in the script, and in the script one of my lines said “(actually showing emotion for once)” which literally means my character was not caring at all prior to that, and was just simply in the space because they were an employee making minimum wage….. and the director was like “make the character appear happier…. your character is clashing with the overall atmosphere of the space” and that was LITERALLY the point of my character. my character was meant to mock gen z 😭🔥 —— when i played a more shy & reserved queer character who met her girlfriend in the 70’s, and the STRAIGHT director was saying that in the 70’s queer people only met through h00kups & that my character was a h00kup girl, which was ABSOLUTELY FALSE!!! she was NAWTTTT a h00kup girl!! —- i’ve had so many other experiences than the 3 i listed, but those 3 were the ones that drove me the most insane!! —- honorable mention is when a director spent 5 minutes trying to figure out why [🙂] dropped something in front of [♥️]…. but it literally says in the script “As [♥️] kneels to clean up the mess, [🙂] points [😵💫] toward [🌹]” which literally SAYS exactly why that character dropped something!!! i had already opened my mouth way too many times during that rehearsal so i was keeping my mouth shut… FIVE MINUTES later a different actor finally spoke up 😭 —— it’s so painful b/c i usually heavily analyze scripts too & will notice the tiny mistakes which bugs me, but its like, whatever, not my place to talk most of the time…………. but seeing the most SURFACE LEVEL portion of the script be misconstrued drives me INSANE!!!! —- #actor #acting #medialiteracy #theatre #theatremajor #musicaltheatre](/video/cover/7489586195656346926.webp)
