Fruit Salad — Rescued! Meet Mango (Calico) and Kiwi! They’ve been with us since Saturday, decompressing and settling in. Kim who also helped me with Maple, Lady Bug, and the Spice Girls, once again stepped up and saved these fruit sisters. She kept them safe overnight and then drove them to @rahrahzz, who had also helped me with little angel Callie. She delivered the girls to me, and from there we headed home. The girls weren’t eating well and had terrible diarrhea. Kim warned me they were having loose stool on the road, and Sarah had to deal with the same challenge during her part of the transport. That’s the messy side of rescue work you rarely hear about. 💩 I was prepared for it on our trip home too, but luckily, they seemed to be done with it before I took over. Sorry, Kim and Sarah! 😅 Let’s fall in love again—follow their journey! 🧡🧡 P.S. According to the shelter, the kittens were found in a bush and brought in. But just by looking at them, I suspect they came from a home. They had no fleas, were clean (aside from the poop mess), looked well-fed, and seemed comfortable with people. Many kittens are born accidentally in homes because people don’t spay or neuter their cats. Some of those kittens are surrendered to shelters with the hope they’ll easily find homes. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. In overcrowded shelters, seniors, babies, sick animals, and those labeled aggressive are the first to be put down. Babies without their mom can’t survive there, since they need round-the-clock feeding in a warm environment. This is NOT the shelters’ fault—it’s the heartbreaking result of overpopulation. And so much of it could be prevented by being responsible cat parents. Some kittens, like our little Fruit Salad, get lucky and are saved. But there are so many more who never get that chance.
