MPD said Jerving and his partner had been looking for Terrell Thompson, 19, the night of February 6. Police said Thompson was wanted for stealing a woman's car and her phone. Police said the officers got information Thompson showed up at 14th Street and Cleveland Avenue. When Jerving and his partner arrived on scene, it was in the early morning hours of February 7, a couple hours after Jerving first radioed to other officers that they were looking for Thompson. The video shows Jerving tell Thompson not to run. It then shows Thompson take off, weaving through apartment buildings, with both officers splitting up to try to catch him. Jerving's partner's body camera shows Thompson slip in the snow by a fence and the officer catches up to him. The video shows Jerving's partner start wrestling with Thompson on the ground. That's when police said Thompson pulled his own gun and fired shots into the air, just as Jerving arrived. At this point, police said no one had been shot. Jerving's camera shows he backed up, called in "shots fired" on his radio and then ran back to his partner. At this point, Jerving is starting to wrestle Thompson, when shots ring out again. Police said Thompson opened fire a second time and Jerving fired back.
