@deplorableway: Mexico, officially the United Mexican States, is a country in North America within the southern portion of the continent. The country was founded on September 27th, 1821, and its first ever constitution as an independent country, the Federal Constitution of the United Mexican States, was ratified on October 4th, 1824. In the 15th century, Spanish explorers landed on the newly-discovered continent of America (Age of Discovery), and the Spanish Crown commanded that Mexico be turned into a Spanish colony. In 1521, the Spanish conquistadors besieged México-Tenochtitlán (the capital of the Aztec Empire), almost completely destroying Anáhuac (the heartland of Aztec Mexico (Nahuatl): “land on the edge of the water”. Anáhuac contained five lakes, the largest being Lake Texcoco, where México-Tenochtitlán was constructed). The Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire (February of 1519 to August 13th, 1521) made way for the establishment of the Viceroyalty of New Spain (a territorial entity) by Habsburg Spain (composite monarchy/personal union of the Spanish Empire). Mexico then existed as a colony until the Mexican War of Independence (September 16th, 1810 to September 27th, 1821).
