Raw post ahead, TW PPA/PPD Most people assume postpartum depression/anxiety looks like being curled up in bed crying. Here’s your reminder that it doesn’t. It can, but not always. Sometimes it looks like an angry mother. Sometimes it looks like a mom who is disassociating/isolated/self loathing. Sometimes it looks like this on the outside. Smiley pictures, happy videos, upbeat captions. One thing I know for sure-PPA/PPD does not discriminate. It doesn’t care who you are. While I’ve never experienced PP psychosis, I don’t have to to know it also comes with no face. I’m so passionate about this topic because I’ve seen firsthand how things can appear to be okay with mom. You go visit, you hold the baby, and she’s smiling. You know she’s tired but she’s still rocking and feeding her baby. Mama: please don’t be afraid to reach out. Even if it’s not a friend or family member, make sure it’s your provider. And if they don’t listen, switch to one that will. Our children deserve the best of us, but we also deserve the best of us. Even if that takes you away from your baby while you receive care. What happened in MA is listed as “rare”. I don’t think it’s as rare as it’s assumed to be. I think we just aren’t hearing mothers crawling out of the depths of it alone because they’re too afraid to speak up. Or worse, are met with no solution. Hang in there, and if you’re going through something at ANY part of your postpartum (time doesn’t matter when it comes to depression/anxiety/rage) please come visit me in my inbox. You are loved and you are strong 🤍 #motherhood #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodrising #motherhoodjourney #ppa #ppd #ppdawareness #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwareness #mentalhealthmatters #psychosisawareness #mother #njmom #njmoms
