@markhasara: The U.S. Navy F-35 Joint Strike Fighter has one of the shortest arresting hooks ever made on a carrier-based aircraft. Fortunately, the F-35 has the Joint Precision Approach Landing Systems or JPALS, which uses a data link system to land the airplane in any type of weather or conditions. The system was so good the arresting hook point was hitting in the same 6 inches of the flight deck wearing off the anti-skid coating on the deck.
