There is no requirement to be red, though there are barred colors (sadly including yellow). A quick Google would have told the commenter that.

The carrier signal flag can be any color except any shade of green, brown, white, yellow or blue and be in contrast to mailbox color. That’s what USPS

Yeah some mail men won’t say shit. Post master will. I painted one blue before and had to repaint it. Also had it 2” higher and had to lower it.
