@drt_therapist: Follow for Part 2 - another example of how this might go. Although passing a box of tissues may be a well intentioned act of compassion, in the therapy room it can have undertones of "Don't cry," "Stop crying," "Clean up," etc. Different therapists handle this differently. I set my tissues near the client and allow them to grab them, if they want to. Remember, while many may relate to this, it may not be your experience. #therapytiktok #therapytok #psychotherapist #psychologist #tiktoktherapist #cryingintherapy #therapistsoftiktok

I love this video! Research shows handing someone a tissue is more about you than the person crying. I wish more therapists understood this!

I am a therapist and I dont acknowledge tissues. I just have them visible and accessible for clients while expressing themselves.

I remember not going back to my college counselor because I didn't want to cry, at that time my dad had cancer and so much was going on in my head

This is EXACTLY how I felt when my therapist did that. It also felt like she didn't see me as an adult able to wipe my tears when I wanted to.

I keep all emotions tightly wrapped in therapy because I don’t want to annoy the therapist if I cry….😅

I think it depends on your love language. I love acts of services and a gesture like this would make me feel seen and appreciated ☺️

As a client in my teens I felt this. As a therapist, I somehow didn’t realize until now/this video. Thank you!

yo si fuera psicóloga les pondría una botella con agua y los pañuelos en una mesa cerca de ellos así ellos deciden como y cuando calmarse

This is incredibly true for me. You offer tissues to me I automatically stop crying. Can’t help it.

Interesting. I have never felt like that when my therapist gave me time to “get it together”. Wonder why is different for different people

My last therapist did this. She also made an over the top frowny pouty face anytime I told her something upsetting.
