The reason you get tears when cutting the onion is because when you cut the center pit lookin thing it releases the gas that causes tears

when you cut onions they immediately start looking for moisture which is why your eyes start to burn. keep a glass of water next to your cutting board

just put a cup of water close to your cutting board. it's the moisture that attracts the onion stuff, so whatever moisture is the closest
