I have been collecting shells since I was a child. On the island of Jura, I was told that some shells were once used as currency. I remember the feeling so clearly — that something so small, so ordinary, could hold value. Since then, I’ve never really stopped looking. This piece brings together shells I’ve gathered over a lifetime. Each one shaped by time, tide, and chance. Each one completely unique. I’ve placed them into a quiet structure — a kind of holding. Not to contain them, but to honour them. For me, this work sits somewhere between wildness and care. Between what is found… and what is gently held. In a time that can feel fractured, I find myself returning to this: individual pieces, coming together, creating something whole.
