TikTok Fam: you all know I’ve been very vocal about a lot of things this year and unfortunately, that takes a toll. Writing is now my primary living and it is terrifying to try and promote a book during these scary times. But, this book has been a total labor of love for the past 4 years!!! And to finally get to hold it in my hands is SURREAL!! KV Family: some of you have been here since the OLDEN DAYS OF YORE (i.e., 2016), when The Korean Vegan was a hobby, something I did on the side of full-time lawyering. It was a place to share my love of photography, writing, and recipe development. I never believed, back then, that I could be a professional at any of these things, but here I am: the author of not just one, but TWO books!! Like my NYT bestselling, James Beard winning (💅💅💅) first book, this second book, The Korean Vegan Homemade, has TEN (10) chapters of over 100 recipes: The Basics Beverages Breakfast & Brunch Salads Banchan Soups & Stews Comfort Foods & Snacks Pasta & Noodles Mains Desserts And of course, each of these is preceded with “storytime,” probably the hallmark of my brand, The Korean Vegan. Do you know how many people didn’t believe in me or a cookbook full of stories and Korean vegan recipes? A LOT of publishers passed on my book because they didn’t think it would sell. They didn’t want to take a chance on doenjang or stories about Korean American immigrants. They certainly didn’t believe in a “random” mix of that and vegan food. Luckily, one publisher did and to them, I will remain grateful until I die!! Another company in the industry who took a chance on The Korean Vegan? @barnesandnoble. I’ve been going to Barnes since I was a teenager and I will never forget the moment I saw a real, live copy of my book on one of their shelves. And guess what? Through July 11, B&N members can preorder a copy of my book for 25% off! Anyhoot, thank you KV Fam. Whether you’re new here or a super-senior, I’m grateful for your support. We are living in uncertain times and I say a lot of things on my social media.
